5 Games You Shouldn’t Miss in 2014

1. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes


Console gamers should watch out for the latest installment of Konami’s bestsellingMetal Gear franchise. Step back into the world of Solid Snake with all-new Fox Engine game technology and open world gameplay. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will serve as the introduction to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which will have a main field that’s a “hundred times larger”. Series creator Hideo Kojima tells Xbox Wire that he’s mostly looking forward to the “pseudo-cloud” era that will allow players to interact with their games and each other in exciting new ways using multiple devices. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be released on March 18, 2014 in the U.S. and March 20, 2014 in Europe.

2. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Even though games that have been spun out of books and movies have not had much luck in the past, many are still excited about Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, from developer Monolith Productions.This third person video game is a prequel to the events of The Lord of the Ringsand follows the story of a ranger named Talion who is murdered by the forces of Sauron, but is brought back from the dead. Judging from screenshots of the game, this title will bring an exciting new twist to Tolkien’s fantasy world.

3. The Witcher 3: Witch Hunt

This newest installment of The Witcher franchise from CD Projekt is sure to delight old fans and claim new ones. Dive into Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s brilliant fantasy world and fight vicious monsters inspired by European ghost stories and Celtic legend. Using the new REDengine, this is a game with a nonlinear open world that’s said to be 20% bigger than Skyrim. The game is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2014 for PC and next-generation consoles.

4. Watch Dogs


If you’ve always wondered what its’ like to be a hacker, Ubisoft’s new open world Watch Dogswill give you a chance to find out. Play as Aiden Pearce, a hacker that can tap into any camera, phone, computer, and even traffic lights within Chicago City. Depending on your choices, you can become a great hero or a super villain using the city as your weapon. Watch Dogs is set to release in spring 2014.

5. Dark Souls II

One of the most anticipated games of 2014, Dark Souls II lets players enter a familiar world and control a cursed hero on a quest to find a cure for his agony. According to those who’ve tried the Beta version, the new Dark Souls is viciously difficult and challenging, perfectly suited for those who are “prepared to die.” In an interview with Dark Souls II Director Yui Tanimura, he reveals that Dark Souls II will not have an “easy mode,” emphasizing how challenge and difficulty are “core elements of the game.” Namco Bandai has scheduled this game to be released on March 11, 2014 in North America for PS3 and Xbox 360.
